Fifth Grade Weekly News

Announcements:

·           Lunch Time – 12:00-12:25

·           Related Arts – P.E./ Mindfulness

·           Module 3 Assessment: January 9^th. A study guide will be sent home this week. 

·           Causes of the Revolutionary War Assessment: January 10^th.  A study guide will be sent home on Tuesday.

·           Physical and chemical properties of matter assessment on Thursday, Jan. 11^th.

·           Fitness Friday: remember to wear tennis shoes each Friday.

·           Looking forward at the forecast, it looks like we will be heading outside for recess. Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing.

ELA Workshop: 

What is a good strategy for formatting a 30-minute On-Demand writing piece?

.  Students will be going through the writing process while answering on-demand tasks. We will learn how to format an 8-sentence paragraph.

 

Math Workshop: 

How do I show what I know about adding and subtracting fractions? How do I measure and use line plots?  How do I interpret a fraction as division?

·         We will review and assess what we know about adding and subtracting fractions, then move into introducing Module 4, multiplying and dividing fractions.

 Science: 

What are chemical and physical changes?

·         Students will be learning about the two different changes this week.  We will assess our gained knowledge.

 Social Studies:   

What were the causes of the Revolution? Who was Thomas Payne? What were the advantages of declaring independence?

·         Students will be discuss and act out the causes of the American Revolution. After the assessment, we will begin learning about the important leaders of the time, and reasons for declaring independence.
