A note from Mrs. Tabor…

Wow, the students are really enjoying learning about what is out there in the “great big world”! 

 

Don’t forget, Wednesday, March 26^th, we will have our All About Me Writer’s Celebration.  We will meet you downstairs in the library at 11:15.  The children are very excited to share their All About Me.  Afterwards, you are invited and encourage to stay and join them for lunch.  Lunch preorders were sent home last week, but you can always bring lunch, or pick up Subway, etc. (the lines can be long in the cafeteria sometimes ;-)  Please make sure I take your picture with your child for their scrapbook before you head down to the lunch room.  I will come to the cafeteria at the end of lunch to get all of the students.

What are we learning?

Reading Workshop

This week, we will continue exploring books that represent the continents.  We will learn all about Africa this week.  We will discuss setting, using fiction and non-fiction books.

 

Writing Workshop

We will retell a familiar story in a different setting, including characters, problem and solution.  We will then map out our stories into a book. 

 

Word Study

This week we will learn about the consonant blends:  -it, -in, -ing, and -im.  Our word wall words for this week are: into, put, over.  Have your child sing you the songs for these words.

 

Math

We will spend one day doing MAP testing, and then continue our unit on writing numbers 11-19.  You can practice these at home too! 

 

Science/ Social Studies

We will learn about Africa.

A note from Room 205…

It was wonderful to have a chance to talk with you about your children’s progress.  The best part of Kindergarten is watching how quickly your children learn, and how excited they are to learn.  Again, thank you for sharing your children with me.

 

On Wednesday, March 26^th, we will have our All About Me Writer’s Celebration.  We are very excited to share with you our fabulous non-fiction books that we have been working so hard on for the past few weeks.  Please join us in the library at 11:15 to enjoy your child’s and others books.  After our celebration, you are welcome to stay and eat lunch with your children in the cafeteria.

We will begin a new unit on teens.  We explore counting with tens and ones.

 

Science/ Social Studies

We will learn about Asia.

A note from Mrs. Tabor’s class…

What a winter!!!  So glad to be back in school today!  Today was our field trip to Slugger Field for Kosair Children’s Hospital Week. 

 

We went to three different areas;  SafetyVille, Hospital Land, and Wellness World.  In Safety Ville, we learned about wearing our helmet, buckling up, poisons and burn prevention, and how to safely cross the street.  In Hospital Land, we learned all about what it is like to be a patient at a hospital, and what a lab, an x-ray and the emergency department are like.  While in Wellness World, we learned about: nutrition, fitness, not smoking, hand washing, sleep and dental care.  What a great trip it was!

 

This is Dr. Seuss week!  We plan to enjoy the fun rhymes of Dr. Seuss and his zany stories!

 

 

What are we learning?

Reading Workshop

This week we will read and compare lots of Dr. Seuss books.  Be sure to get these off your shelf if you have them at home too. 

Writing Workshop

We will continue writing a book about ourselves, our families, and our family celebrations.  If you have not returned your Family Celebration homework page, please do so as soon as possible. 

Word Study

This week we will learn about the consonant blends:  sp, sk, sm, sc, sn, sw.  Our word wall words for this week are:  how, who, and two.  Have your child sing you the songs for these words.

Math

We will learn how to count on, and how to keep track of many we’ve counted on.    

Science/ Social Studies

We will continue our unit on American Symbols and Celebrations.  This week we will learn about Mount Rushmore and the US Flag.
