A note Mrs. Tabor…

 

Thank you to all who have generously participated in the Harmony Helping House.  If you haven’t sent in your item, please make sure you send in your item by Tuesday, December 17^th.  We are preparing them for delivery to the Red Cross next Thursday. 

 

Harmony’s Annual Sing-Along will be held on Thursday, December 19^th.  We are going to lead the school in singing “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.”  Start practicing this song at home.  We are going to make antlers and a red nose at school.  Thursday is also the school wide pajama day.

 

Our class Christmas Party is scheduled for December 20^th at 10:30-11:30 am.  Parents are welcome to attend.  Due to space, longer siblings may not attend.  Students will need to bring special sweet treat and drink for the party.

What are we learning?

 Reading Workshop

We are continuing our unit on story elements.  We are focusing on retelling the main events of several Jan Brett books.

 

Writing Workshop

This week we will continue writing our persuasive letters to Santa.  Look for these letters to be published in the Oldham Era online. 

 

Word Study

This week, we will explore the short u word families: -ug, -ut, -um, -un. Ask your child about the chants for these chunks.  We will also learn how to read and write these words that will be added to our Word Wall: there, go, if.  Have your child sing you the songs for these words.

 

 Math

We are finishing our unit on story problems.  We will complete our transfer task on Thursday. 

 

Social Studies

This week we are finishing our unit on Celebrations around the World.  We will learn about the Legend of the Christmas tree from Germany and the Chinese New Year.

A note from Mrs. Tabor….

The holidays are coming and we have been busy in kindergarten getting ready.  We are learning so much about different holidays and traditions.  Penelope-our Elf on a Shelf came in last week and the children are working very hard to impress her. 

We will be participating in a school-wide holiday sing a long on Thursday, December 19^th.  The whole school will be wearing pajamas and singing festive songs.  Kindergarten is singing “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”.  The children decided they would like to wear reindeer antlers (we will make these in school). 

 

We will be having a class holiday party on Friday, December 20^th at 10:30. 

 

            Thank you again for maintaining structure and routines during this busy time of year.  The kids are bursting with excitement and energy.  We really appreciate you keeping good sleep and diet habits to support their learning and health. 

Reminders ….

-       Kindergarten is a time to learn independence. Please encourage your student to do things on their own at home!  Once you see them do something on their own, have them continue to do it on their own to build their confidence!

-       During the Holiday Season, please make sure you continue reading with your child every night.

We are beginning a new unit on story elements.  This week, we will discuss characters and setting.

 

Writing Workshop

We are very busy writing our letters to Santa and learning what it means to persuade.  It’s time to begin our letters to Santa! 

Word Study

This week, we will explore the word families: -et, -en, -eg.  Ask your child about the phonics chants for all. If they seem like they don’t remember, here’s a refresher for –en.  We say, “En, en, ten men named Ben. Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben, Ben (ten times while counting on fingers).  We will also learn how to read and write these words that will be added to our Word Wall: me, see, from.  Have your child sing you the songs for these words.

 

Math

What do the numbers in this story mean?  We will begin to learn about the addition and subtraction symbols through solving number stories.

 

Social Studies

We are learning so much about various holidays and traditions people celebrate during this time of year.

A note from Mrs. Tabor….

We hope that you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving, and were able to slow down for a few days to enjoy your families.  And for those who celebrate Chanukah, Happy Chanukah to you!

            Remember that we are going to the Louisville Palace to see the Nutcracker in a Nutshell on Friday.  Because we are going to a special place, we’d like for the children to dress up in their special clothes.  Church clothes or holiday clothes are acceptable; no jeans or sweats.

            This is an exciting time for many of us.  Please keep in mind that your children’s diets and sleep effect their health, their behavior and their learning. Please do your best to keep them on a regular schedule over the next few weeks.  You have no idea how much we appreciate you doing this!

 

Reminders ….

   - Our Harmony Helping House is a 7 year-old girl.  If you didn't already respond, it's not too late to send in a doll, toy, game or craft for her! We'll begin wrapping gifts on the 10th.

-       Kindergarten is a time to learn independence. Please encourage your student to do things on their own at home!  Once you see them do something on their own, have them continue to do it on their own to build their confidence!

-       It’s been a long time since someone has joined the shoe tying club.  Please help your child learn this skill.

-       During the Holiday Season, please make sure you continue reading with your child every night.
