A note from Mrs.
Tabor…
Here we go into the
final stretch…and we will continue to learn and grow! We just finished our reading assessments, and
you should all be very proud of how much your child has grown as a reader,
writer and thinker over the past several months.
We cannot have guests
in the building until after testing, so please advise grandparents and other
family members that there are no exceptions to this rule.
However, we will have
a class picnic for family member on Friday June 5th from 11-11:30 in
our outdoor picnic area, weather permitting. (We’ll move it inside if the
weather doesn’t permit).

*Each week’s word work
lists are available for students to practice on Spelling City. The link is: https://www.spellingcity.com/sherilyntabor/
*In class we have been
using the app, Front Row, to practice math concepts. You can use
this app at home. Your child’s user name
is first name, last initial, and the password is r442ji.
*Send in a healthy
snack and water bottle every day!
*Be sure to sign and
return your students planner every day! Don’t forget to record their reading!
What are we learning?
Reading Workshop
This week we will be
learning about the comprehension strategy, “Synthesizing.” Synthesizing is all about how our thinking
changes as we learn. It combines our
reflective thoughts with new learning.
We will use the Russian stacking dolls, or Matryoshka dolls as a
metaphor for how our learning grows. Ask
your child to share the poems, stories and songs that he/she is learning this
week, and discuss how our thinking can change and grow.
Writing Workshop
We will share our
skeletal bones presentations this week, and begin researching the digestive
system.
Word Study
We are finished with
adding new word wall words, but look for word work words in your child’s
agenda. We will continue to study 10
this week and next week.
Math
In Math we will assess
what we’ve learned about arrays and move on to our last unit on Fractions. We will learn about what ½, ¼, and 1/3 mean.
Science &
Social Studies
This week we will continue
to learn about the digestive system. This week, we will learn about the
function of the stomach, the upper intestines and the lower intestines.
We will have some not-so
appetizing experiments to demonstrate these bodily functions!
