A note from Mrs. Tabor…
Five
more days of school! What a great year
we’ve had. Last week, we reflected on
the learning that happened over the past year.
As you can imagine, it was quite an extensive list! Please remember to keep learning over the
summer. Join the library and participate
in the summer reading program, purchase a Summer Bridge book from The Parent
Teacher store or from Barnes and Noble.
Costco usually carries comparable skill practice books as well. Also, don’t forget to write, whether it is journaling
about Summer travel, or writing postcards to loved ones, these activities all
help from the dreaded summer learning loss.

*Each week’s word work lists are available for students to practice on

*In class we have been using the app, Front Row, to practice math
concepts. You can use this app at
home. Your child’s user name is first
name, last initial, and the password is r442ji.
*Send
in a healthy snack and water bottle every day!
*Be
sure to sign and return your students planner every day! Don’t forget to record
their reading!
What are we learning?
Reading
Workshop
This
week we will finish our book study, The Stranger Next Door. Each day we
will read a chapter of the book, then complete a comprehension activity related
to our reading. We will identify our
main characters and their traits, describe the setting, list the story
elements, summarize the chapters, and practice using our thinking strategies
(metacognition, visualizing, determining importance, inferring, synthesizing)
Writing Workshop
This
week we will begin reflecting back on our memories from second grade. Students will work on listing their favorite
memories and choose a few to write about.
We will also complete a second grade memory book together.
Word
Study
We
will continue with group lists from their word work.
Math
In
Math we will compare fractions, create fraction number stories, play math
games, and take our fraction assessment and transfer task.
Science
& Social Studies
This week we will perform science
experiments. We will be making
parachutes and building towers from straws and cups.
