A note from Mrs. Tabor…

What a great Husky Hustle we had! Take a look below for pictures from the event.  With your help, we raised about $800!  This money helps the PTA purchase needed items for our school.  Not to mention, $80 of that money goes directly into our classroom budget that can be used to purchase needed books or other supplies for the classroom.  Thank you all for your help!

 Reminders

*Keep Flat Stanley going! We are really enjoying the letters that we have received so far.

*Send in a healthy snack and water bottle every day!

*Be sure to sign and return your students planner every day! Don’t forget to record their reading!

What are we learning?

 Reading Workshop

What are character traits?  We will be reading books that show an unlikely friendship between two characters.  Through those books, we will be discussing character traits, and comparing them to our own character traits.  We will also start guided reading groups.  Please look for those books to come home this week.  Your child is responsible for practicing from that book, and returning it to school the next day.  If your child has been at Harmony in the past, you are familiar with the guided reading routine.

Writing Workshop

This week, we are exploring reading friendly letters.  They will write letters to someone in Mrs. Burger’s class (a Mystery Person!), and we will reveal that person Monday afternoon. We will also write letters to characters in Charlotte’s Web, our read aloud book.

  

Word Study

This week’s words are: third, clean, took, head, money

Long vowel group: Short u versus long u (u_e)

Other vowel group: Short u versus long u (-ew and –ue)

Blends group: cr, cl, fl and fr blends

 Math

We are finishing up our unit on measuring length and line plots.  Ask your child about some measuring projects that we are doing in class.

 Science

What is Matter?  We will be exploring solids, liquids, and gasses, and learning about the properties of matter.  Please ask your child about what they are discovering in Science!

Seek first to understand, then to be understood.  Please read the handout in your child’s take-home folder.
